On 30 October 2012, the government of Turkey decided to raise the import tariff on cattle and sheep. Under the new regime, imports of either living animal are now subject to an import duty of 40 percent, up from 30 percent.
Furthermore, the import tariffs have been raised to 100 percent for meat of either animal, up from 75 percent for beef and 30 percent for sheep.
