ANNOUNCED AS TEMPORARYNo
On 24 September 2009, the Indonesian Ministry of Finance announced by regulation 150/PMK.011/2009 a temporary reduction of import duties on sugar. According to the officials, decision was taken in response to increasing sugar prices on the world market.
The tariff on raw sugar from sugar cane was reduced from 550 IDR/kg to 150 IDR/kg, whereas the duty on white and refined sugar was dropped from 790 IDR/kg to 400 IDR/kg.
The regulation came into force on the day on 1 October 2009 and was initially to last until 31 December 2009. However, the duty reduction was prolonged by regulation 239/PMK.011/2009 until 31 April 2010.
