Safeguard

On May 26, 2014, the Indian Directorate General of safeguards initiated a safeguard investigation on imports of sodium di-chromate.
The product subject to investigation is classified under the following HS code: 2841.3000.
This follows the application lodged by M/s. Vishnu Chemicals, which accounts for more than 70% of the domestic production of the subject good.
According to the UN Comtrade Database, in 2013 the following countries exported goods classified under HS code subheading 2841.30 to India with a trade value over USD 1 million: Russia (USD 6.94 million), South Africa (USD 4.55 million) and Kazakhstan (USD 3.20 million).
On January 15, 2015, the Indian Directorate General of safeguards decided to terminate the investigation without imposing any duty. It considered that the domestic industry does not deserve to be protected by imposition of a safeguard duty.
