Import tariff

On 10 October 2014, upon the advice of the International Trade Administration Commission of South Africa (ITAC), the South African Revenue Service (SARS) issued Notice R. 774, re-introducing import tariffs on certain paper products of paperboard coated, impregnated or covered with plastic or metal foil, at 5 percent (under the newly created tariff headings HS 4811.59.05 and 4811.90.05). Since 1 January 2012, imports of the specified products had been free of duty (see 'Related measures'). Imports from EU, EFTA and SADC member states remain exempt from the duty.

The measure took effect on 10 October 2014 and applies to the Southern African Customs Union (SACU).
