ANNOUNCED AS TEMPORARYNo
Import tariff quota
On 17 May 2011, the Brazilian Foreign Trade Council (Camex) issued Resolution no. 34 introducing tariff rate quotas on 4.4Isopropylidenediphenol (Bisphenol A, diphenylolpropane) and its salts (NCM 2907.23.00) at 2% for a quota of 3,000 tonnes for 6 months, and on sheets of carbon steel with specified thickness, width and length (NCM 7208.51.00) at 2% for a quota of 30,000 tonnes, until 31 December 2011.
The goods have been classified as ex-tarifários which are goods with a tariff exception to the Mercosur Common External Tariff. The goal of the reduced tariff is to restructure Brazil's industrial park and infrastructure services by incentivizing investments in capital or IT and telecommunication goods. An exception from the Mercosur Common External Tariff can be invoked in case of a shortage or no domestic production of the good in question.
The measure took effect on 18 May 2011 and lasted until 31 December 2011 at the latest.
