NoOn 7 September 2011, the European Commission (EC) issued Regulation 898/2011, amending Regulation 543/2011 and adjusted the trigger level for tomatoes (HS 0702 00 00). The trigger level has been increased by 147 tonnes.
The trigger level defines the preferential import tariff quota. Imports above the trigger level will be subject to additional duties. Therefore, an increase in the trigger level is seen as an indirect decrease in the import duties, while a decrease in the trigger level represents an augmentation in the import duties.
This measure is therefore considered trade liberalising. The measure entered into force on 1 October 2011.
Update: With the regulation 450/2012, the tariff quota for tomatoes has been amended and this measure is therefore suspended with the entry into force of Regulation 450/2012 on 30 May 2012
