Safeguard

On June 6, 2013, the Indian Directorate General of safeguards initiated a safeguard investigation on imports of methyl acetoacetate (also known as MAA/MAAE/AAME).
The product subject to investigation is classified under the following HS code: 2918.3040.
This follows the application lodged by M/s Laxmi Organic Industries Ltd., the sole domestic producer of the subject good.
According to the UN Comtrade Database, in 2012 the following countries exported goods classified under HS code subheading 2918.30 to India with a trade value over USD 1 million: China (USD 37.97 million), Austria (USD 5.41 million), the United States of America (USD 3.23 million), Switzerland (USD 1.85 million) and France (USD 1.17 million).
On October 8, 2013, the Indian Directorate General of safeguards decided to terminate the safeguard investigation on imports of methyl acetoacetate.
