Anti-dumping

On July 4, 2014, the Secretary for Foreign Trade of the Brazilian Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade decided to initiate an anti-dumping investigation on imports of vehicle lifting platforms from the European Union (Circular No. 42, 04.07.2014).
The products subject to investigation are classified under the following HS code: 8428.1000.
The complaint was lodged on April 30, 2014 by the Brazilian Association of Machinery and Equipment Industry (Associação Brasileira da Indústria de Máquinas e Equipamentos - ABIMAQ).
The investigation started on the day of the publication of the circular in the Federal Official Gazette of Brazil, i.e. on July 7, 2014.
According to the UN Comtrade Database, in 2013 the following EU members exported vehicle lifting platforms to Brazil with a trade value over USD 1 million: Spain (USD 14.2 million), Italy (USD 3.1 million), Belgium (USD 2.5 million), Slovakia (USD 2.3 million), Germany (USD 1.7 million) and Sweden (USD 1.1 million).

On August 20th, 2014, the Secretary for Foreign Trade of the Brazilian Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade decided to terminate the investigation without imposing any duty due to the lack of evidence to judge the existence of injury (Circular No. 48, 20.08.2014). Circular SECEX No. 48 was published in the Federal Official Gazette of Brazil on September 4th, 2014.
