Export ban

On 23 February 2012, India allowed the export of certain varities of non-basmati rice from the non-EDI (Electronic Data Interchange) Land Custom Stations on the Bangladesh and Nepal border and also permitted State Trading Enterprises (STEs) to export such rice from privately held stocks.

Earlier on 9 September 2011, the export ban on these varieties of rice was removed (see related measure) but the export was allowed only for private parties and only through Custom EDI ports. Unlike the latter, export through the land custom stations will require prior registration with the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT).
