Import-related non-tariff measure, nes

 Through Royal Decree No. 556, Thailand provided a temporary VAT exemption valid from 27 December 2012 to 31 December 2014 for individual importers or distributors of rough stones. Rough stones under this measure include uncut and unpolished gems, ruby, emerald, yellow sapphire, garnet, opal, onyx, zircon, chrysoberyl, jade and similar jewelsFurther all conditions laid out by the Director General of the Revenue Department must be satisifed to avail the exemption.
 
According to reports, the above measure was taken to build Thailand's position as a jewelry trading center.
