Production subsidy

On 23 August 2013, the Ministry for Agriculture adopted DM/NO. 025/2013 which introduces subsidies for the following goods (exchange rate as of 4 May 2014):

  • Paddy rice: Bs. 2.13per kg (USD 0.34per kg), for 1 August 2013 until 30 December 2013
  • White corn: Bs. 1.75per kg (USD 0.28per kg), for 1 August 2013 until 30 January 2014
  • Yellow corn: Bs. 1.72per kg (USD 0.27per kg ), for 1 August 2013 until 30 January 2014
  • Soy: Bs. 1.23per kg (USD 0.2per kg), for 1 August 2013 until 28 February 2014
  • Sorghum: Bs. 0.64per kg (USD 0.1per kg), for 15 September 2013 until 15 April 2014
  • Sugar: Bs. 4.36per kg (USD 0.69per kg), for 15 September 2013 until 15 September 2014

The subsidy on paddy rice in this measure increased by USD 0.16per kg compared to the last one (see 'Related Measures').

The measure entered into force retroactively, i.e. on 1 August 2013. These subsidies to domestic producers disadvantage competing foreign suppliers.
