Import ban

On 20 August 2013, the European Commission implemented a regulation that temporary suspends the import of Atlanto-Scandian herring and mackerel from the Faeroe Islands.
 
The stated reason is extensive overfishing. Allegedly, the Faeroe Islands failed to cooperate with the EU and adopt the necessary fishery management measures. The import ban is accompanied by a refusal of the use of Union ports by vessels from the Faeroe Island that fish for the above mentioned fish.
 
The measure entered into force on 21 August 2013 and the expiry date depends on the cooperation of the Faeroe Islands.
Update
On 18 August 2014, the Commission announced it will lift the ban starting 20 August 2014. According to a press release, "The decision comes after it was agreed that the Faroe Islands would cease their unsustainable fishery and would adopt a catch limit for herring in 2014 at 40,000t. This level is considerably lower than the one the Faroes had adopted in 2013 and which, according to the current scientific assessments, does not put in jeopardy the conservation efforts of the coastal States sharing the stock."
Hence, this measure is no longer classified as implemented.
