ANNOUNCED AS TEMPORARYNo
On 6 July 2012, the Brazilian Foreign Trade Council (Camex) reduced the import tariffs for 18 types of goods belonging to the IT and telecommunication sector to 2%. Out of the 18 goods, eleven are new products with a reduced tariff while the remaining 7 items have been given a renewed status as ex-tarifários.
Such ex-tarifários are goods with a tariff exception to the Mercosur Common External Tariff (TEC). The goal of this exceptional tariff is to incentivize investments in capital or IT goods to restructure Brazil's industrial park and infrastructure services. An ex-tarifário can be invoked in case of domestic shortages or non-production of the desired good.
The measure, Camex resolution no. 47, came into power on 6 July 2012 and lasts until 31 December 2013.
