On 13 June 2012, the Brazilian Foreign Trade Council (Camex) reduced the import duties on 186 types of capital goods to 2%. The affected products carry a Mercosur Common Nomenclature (NCM) code and are labeled as ex-tarifários (Ex) which are goods with a tariff exception to the Mercosur Common External Tariff (TEC). The goal of this tariff is to incentivize investments in capital or IT goods to restructure Brazil's industrial park and infrastructure services. Such an ex-tarifário can be invoked in case of domestic non-production of the desired good.
The measure, Camex resolution no. 37, came into power on 13 June 2012 and lasts until 31 December 2013.
Since the inceptionon of the measure, some ex-tarifários (Ex) have been altered:
