Import tariff

On 13 June 2012, the Brazilian Foreign Trade Council (Camex) reduced the import duties on four items from the IT and telecommunication's sector to 2%. The affected items carry the following Mercosur Common Nomenclature (NCM) codes:

  • Routers for Cable Modem Termination Systems (Ex 009 to Ex 011 of NCM 8517.62.49)
  • Videoconference equipment (Ex 016 of NCM 8517.62.49)

The products have been labeled as ex-tarifários (Ex) which are goods with a tariff exception to the Mercosur Common External Tariff (TEC). The goal of this tariff is to incentivize investments in capital or IT goods to restructure Brazil's industrial park and infrastructure services. Such an ex-tarifário can be invoked in case of domestic shortages or non-production of the desired good.

The measure, Camex resolution no. 36, came into power on 13 June 2012 and lasts until 31 December 2013.
