On 1 April 2013, the Brazilian Foreign Trade Council (Camex) reduced the import tariffs on four types of goods from the IT and telecommunication sector to 2%. The products have been labeled as ex-tarifários which are products with a tariff exception to the Mercosur Common External Tariff (TEC). This status can be invoked in case of domestic undersupply or non-production.
The following items from the Mercosur Common Nomenclature (NCM) have been affected by the measure:
The original tariffs according to the Mercosur Common External Tariff are 16%, 12%, 16%, and 14% respectively. The measure by the Brazilian Foreign Trade Council came into power on 1 April 2013 and lasts until 30 June 2014 (see Camex resolution no. 18).
