Import tariff

On July 15, 2013, the Government of Argentina has adopted General Resolution 3513/2013 increasing the reference prices applicable to the importations of billets or products of iron or non-alloy steel from Brazil, Chile, Paraguay, and Uruguay.
 
The products subject to this measure are classified under the following lines of MERCOSUR's Harmonized System:7207.11.10, 7207.11.90, 7207.12.00, 7207.19.00, and 7207.20.00.

The import criterion values have been increased from a FOB value of USD 0.35 per kilogramme to a FOB value of USD 0.5 per kilogramme.
 
The measure took effect on 17 July 2013.
 
Argentina introduced reference values of precautionary nature for imported goods in June 2005 (in Spanish: Valores criterio de carácter preventivo). The stated purpose is to strengthen customs control and prevent under-invoicing. Importers are required to provide guarantees for the difference in duties and taxes if the declared price of an import is lower than its reference price (see 7th GTA Report and 2014 National Trade Estimate Report). Update
On 23 May 2016, the government of Argentina introduced an updated list of criterion values for imports of semi-finished products of iron or non-alloy steel revoking General Resolution 3513 (please see related state acts).
