NoOn June 3, 2013, the Government of Brazil announced the temporary tariff reduction of the ad-valorem import duty applicable to certain information technology and telecommunications goods such as: radio frequency transmitters, data communication modules, printed circuit boards, image capture modules and multi-connecters and optical fiber transmitting and receiving equipment.
The Brazilian legislation, through the "ex-tarifarios" regime authorizes the temporary reduction of the ad-valorem import duty of capital and information technology goods, its parts, pieces and components. Temporary reductions may be introduced whenever there is no domestic production of the relevant goods. To implement these reductions, the Brazilian authorities are allowed to create new tariff positions.
Through this resolution, the Brazilian Government determines the temporary application of a 2% ad-valorem import duty for goods classified under 6 codes of MERCOSUR's Harmonized Tariff System: 8517.62.72, 8517.70.10, 8517.70.99, 8517.70.99, 8536.90.40, 8543.70.99 and 9030.40.90.
The tariff reduction will be applied for a period of 18 months until 31 December 2014.
