Export ban

On 22 February 2013, Trade and Industry Minister, Haruna Iddrisu, announced the plans to prohibit the exportation of scrap metal in order to support the operations of local steel manufacturing companies.

The national parliament approved the regulation (Regulation l.i.2201) on 28 February 2013, which made the new export ban legally binding.
