Import tariff

On 22 February 2013, following an application by South African manufacturers, the South African Revenue Service (SARS) has increased the import tariff on vehicle windscreens (HS 7007.21.20) from 15% to 30% ad valorem. An exception exists for EU/EFTA countries, where the tariff remains at the 15% tariff level.

The International Trade Administration Commission of South Africa (ITAC) based its decision on the finding that the industry in the Southern African Customs Union (SACU) is facing price disadvantages, especially vis-ŕ-vis East Asian manufacturers of safety glass.
