Under its so-called 'Government Borne Import Duty' regime ex Regulation 23/PMK.011/2012 - in which the Indonesian Ministry of Finance can decide to reduce/eliminate the import duties normally payable by importers in order to serve the public interest and/or improve competitiveness of certain industrial sectors.
On 15 October 2012, the Ministry of Finance has made use of this regime and declared to temporarily eliminate the import duties on inputs for the production of a variety of final products, namely ballpoints, toner ink, carpets, vehicle components, ships, telecommunication equipment, plastic products, electronic components, fibre-optic cables, infusion packing and/or medicine, resins and fertilisers. The measure was effective until the end of 2012.
