Safeguard

On 31 May 2012, Egyptian Government initiated a safeguard investigation on imports of polypropylene. The subject product falls under HS code 3902.1090.

The investigation was initiated following an application filed by the Oriental Petrochemicals Company and the Egyptian Propylene and Polypropylene Company.

On the same day, a provisional safeguard measure of 15% of the CIF value was imposed on this product.

On 13 January 2013, the investigation was terminated without the imposition of final duties on the subject product. The authority determined that applying a safeguard measure would not be in the public interest of Egypt given that the injury to the domestic industry was caused by reasons other than an increase in imports.
