ANNOUNCED AS TEMPORARYNo
A Turkish government decision to raise tariffs on imports of livestock and meat took effect on October 30, 2012 after publication in the Official Gazette (Decree no. 2012/3758). The tariff on imports of cows weighing more than 400 kilograms (882 pounds) and lambs younger than 12 months was increased from 30 to 40 per cent. The tax to be applied for the importation of meat, likewise, was increased to 100 per cent from an earlier 70 per cent.
By virtue of the EU-Turkey Customs Union Agreement of December 22, 1995, the tariffs do not apply to products from EU member states.
