On May 1, 2012, the Agreement between the Government of Mexico and China´s footwear industry entered into force. The agreement establishes the conditions for importing Chinese shoes into Mexico. For this reason, Mexico set up import reference prices applicable to Chinese footwear classified under 31 tariff items of Chapter 64 Mexico'sHarmonized System.
The agreement does not prohibit the importation of these type of footwear at prices below the reference. However, the Mexican authorities have implemented a mechanism of verification in order to detect under-invoicing practices that could lead to the embargo of the merchandise and the payment of sanctions.
