Import tariff

On 17 August 2010, the government of Argentina introduced reference prices for imports of halogenated derivatives of hydrocarbons. Under the new regime, imports of polyester yarn have to be sold for 1.78 resp. 2.10 USD /kg depending on the type.
 
The measure took effect on 17 August 2010.
 
Argentina introduced reference values of precautionary nature forimported goods in June 2005 (in Spanish: valores criteriodecarácterpreventivo). The stated purpose is tostrengthencustomscontrolandprevent under-invoicing. Importersarerequired toprovideguaranteesfor thedifference indutiesand taxes ifthedeclaredprice ofanimport islower thanitsreferenceprice(see 7th GTA Report and 2014 National Trade Estimate Report).A list with all current import reference prices can be consulted under:www.afip.gov.ar/aduana/valoracion/valores.criterios.pdf
