ANNOUNCED AS TEMPORARYNo
On 29 March 2009 the Trade Minister of Egypt introduced a ban on cement exports until 1 October 2009 as part of measures to 'control the market' due to increasing local prices.
In a subsequent statement on 16 July 2009 the Minister extended the export ban on grey clinker and grey portland cement until 1 October 2010. The justification for this move given by the government is rising local demand due to 'continuing activity in the construction sector, which was not markedly affected by the global financial crisis."
