On 28 February 2011, the Turkish authorities initiated a safeguard investigation on imports of Poly(ethylene terephthalate) having a minimum viscosity number of 78 ml/g. The product subject to investigation is classified under the following HS code subheading: 3907.60.20.
On 8 November 2011, the Turkish authorities imposed a definitive safeguard duty on imports of the subject good. The rate of duty is 8% the first year, 7.5% the second year and 7% the third year.
On 8 July 2014, the Turkish authorities initiated an expiry review of the above safeguard measure.
On 8 November 2014, the safeguard duty was extended for a period of three years i.e. until 7 November 2017. This follows the conclusion of the above investigation. The rate of duty is 6.75 the first year, 6.65 the second year and 6.55 the last year.
On 17 June 2017, the Turkish authorities initiated a sunset review of the safeguard measure imposed on imports of the subject good.
On 8 November 2017, The Turkish authorities extended the safeguard duty on imports of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) falling under HS code subheading 3907.61.00.00.00. The rate of duty between 8 November 2017 and 7 November 2018 is 6.40%. The rate of duty between 8 November 2018 and 7 November 2019 is 6.20%. The rate of duty between 8 November 2019 and 7 November 2020 is 6%. A number of developing countries are exempt from the safeguard duty.
