On 4 August 2011, the government of India has raised the import quota for marble blocks. For the fiscal year 2011-12, a total of 500'000 tons of marble block may be imported. The quota had been previously fixed at 300'000 tons.
On 22 August 2012, the import quota was further increased to 600'000 tons for the fiscal year 2012-13. On 26 August 2013, the import quota and the applicable MIP for the year 2013-14 was kept unchanged. While the quota for the year 2014-15 was increased to 800'000 tons.
On 2 June 2016, an additional 200'000 metric tons of import quota was announced for the year 2015-16 (a 25% increase for the 2014-15 quota allowed to authorisation holders) as an inerim measure. This import authorisation is valid until 30 September 2016.
The import of marble blocks remains subject to various conditions. Among them is a minimum import price of $325 per ton. The MIP has been reduceed to USD 200 per metric ton with effect from1 Ocotober 2016.
