Trade balancing measure
Beginning on March 10th, 2011, the Argentinean Government started to adopt a series of 'verbal' measures aimed at balancing imports and exports in certain sectors of the economy. Importers in these designated sectors are required to export an amount of local production equal to the value they import. The policy was first applied to car producers and was then extended to the pharmaceutical industry.
By the end of July, 2011, media reported that similar restrictions were also applied to refrigerators, washing machines, cookers and toys.
