Anti-dumping

On 13 May 2011 The International Trade Administration Commission of South Africa terminated the anti-dumping duties of 48% and 33.5% on lysine originating in or imported from the USA, with immediate effect.

The recommendation was made after a request by SA Bioproducts as their product had become uncompetitive due to the non-renewal of the contract between them and the South African Sugar Association for the delivery of sugar (sugar is an important input in the manufacturing of lysine). The anti-dumping duties were first imposed in 2001 and re-imposed in 2008.
