On May 25, 2011, the Government of Argentina adopted General Resolution 3111/2011 increasing the reference prices applicable to the importation of certain type of frames and mountings for spectacles, corrective spectacles, and sunglasses originating in certain Asian locations.
The products subject to this measure are classified under the following tariff lines of MERCOSUR's Harmonized System: 9003.11.00, 9003.19.10, 9003.19.90, 9004.10.00 and 9004.90.10.
The reference prices have been increased from values ranging from USD 0.94 to USD 15.47 per unit to values ranging between USD 1.31 and USD 21.44 per unit, depending on the characteristics of the product.
These reference prices entered into force on May 26, 2011.
Argentina introduced reference values of precautionary nature forimported goods in June2005(inSpanish:valorescriteriodecarácterpreventivo).Thestatedpurpose is tostrengthencustomscontrolandpreventunder-invoicing.
