On April 7, 2011, the Government of Argentina initiated an anti-dumping investigation on certain type of sunglasses, mountings, and corrective spectacles from China. The products subject to investigation are classified under the following items of MERCOSUR Harmonized System: 9003.11.00, 9003.19.10, 9003.19.90, 9004.90.10 and 9004.10.00.
On October 5, 2012, the Government of Argentina adopted anti-dumping duties against imports of certain types of sunglasses, mountings, and corrective spectacles from China. The measure consists on anti-dumping duties of between 13.09 and 16.88 dollars per unit.
On 4 October 2017, the Argentinian authorities initiated a sunset review of the antidumping duty imposed on imports of the subject good from China. This follows the application lodged by CÁMARA ARGENTINA DE INDUSTRIAS ÓPTICAS Y AFINES as well as the companies LGI S.R.L., FADANOVA S.A., ALBACETE S.A., MÁS DE LO QUE VES S.R.L. and RANIERI ARGENTINA S.A. The duty remains in force for the duration of this investigation.
On 1 April 2019, the Argentinian authorities extended the definitive antidumping duty imposed on imports of sunglasses, mountings, and corrective spectacles from China following the conclusion of the sunset review. The rate of duty is 154% on imports of goods lower than a specified FOB value. The FOB value varies depending on the subject good. The measure is in force for a period of two years.
