Import tariff

On February 18, 2011, the Government of Brazil announced the amendment of the Most Favored Nation (MFN) import duties applicable to certain amino-resins, articles of apparel, molds for rubber or plastics and trailers and semi-trailers.

MERCOSUR's legislation allows member states -Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay- to exempt, on a temporary basis, up to 100 goods from the application of the common external tariff. The list of goods may be amended every six months.

The measure has been introduced by Brazil's Foreign Trade Council (Camex) and is based on Camex resolution no. 7 of 17 February 2011. It affects the following items:

  • Amino-resins (NCM 3909.30.20): tariff increased from 14% to 20%
  • Sanitary latex gloves (Ex 001 of NCM 4015.19.00): tariff increased from 16% to 35%
  • Hydraulic (semi-)trailers (Ex 001 of NCM 8716.40.00): tariff decreased from 35% to 0%

Update
Some items have been amended (see "Related Measures"):

  • On 9 April 2012, Camex resolution no. 29 decreased the tariff of Amino-resins (NCM 3909.30.20) back to the Mercosur Common External Tariff (TEC) which is 14%.
