Import tariff

On February 17, 2011, the Federal Administration for Public Revenue of Argentina has adopted General Resolution 3041/2011 increasing the reference prices applicable to the importation of tubular or bifurcated rivets, press-fasteners, and buttons of base metal originating in certain Asian locations. The products subject to this measure are classified under the following tariff lines of MERCOSUR's Harmonized System: 8308.20.00, 9606.10.00 and 9606.22.00.

The new import criterion values have been increased from a FOB value of USD 5.00 and USD 7.00 per kilogramme to a FOB value ranging between USD 6.25 and USD 8.75 per kilogramme for NCM 9606.10.00 and 9606.22.00, and from FOB values ranging between USD 5.00 and USD 7.00 to FOB values ranging between USD 6.25 and USD 9.38 per kilogramme for products classified under NCM 8308.20.00.

The new import criterion values affect the following jurisdictions: the Republic of Korea, Democratic People's Republic of Korea, China, Chinese Taipei, Philippines, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

These reference prices entered into force on February 21, 2011.

Import Criterion Values
Argentina introduced reference values of precautionary nature for imported good sin June 2005 (in Spanish: valores criterio de carácter preventivo). The stated purpose is to strengthen customs control and prevent under-invoicing. Importers are required to provide guarantees for the difference in duties and taxes if the declared price of an import is lower than its reference price (see 7th GTA Report and 2014 National Trade Estimate Report). A list with all current import reference prices can be consulted under: www.afip.gov.ar/aduana/valoracion/valores.criterios.pdf
