NoOn May 19, 2010, the Indian authorities initiated an antidumping investigation on imports of sewing machine needles (meant for both household and industrial purposes) from China.
The products subject to investigation are classified under the following HS code: 8452.3000.
On May 6, 2011, the Indian authorities issued their final findings and recommended the imposition of a definitive anti-dumping duty. This definitive duty was imposed on June 22, 2011 (Notification No. 50/2011-Customs, 22.06.2011). For details about the amount of the duty, see table of Notification No. 50/2011-Customs. This duty is effective for a period of five years.
On 10 June 2016, the Indian authorities initiated a sunset review of the above-mentioned anti-dumping duty imposed on imports of sewing machine needle originating in or exported from China. This follows the application lodged by Altek Beissel Needles Ltd.
On 4 August 2016, in connection with the above sunset review the Indian Ministry of Finance issued the Customs Notification extending the definitive anti-dumping duty on imports of the subject good originating in or exported from China until 21 June 2017 (Notification No. 37/2016-Customs (ADD), 04.08.2016).
On 22 June 2017, following the conclusion the above-mentioned sunset review the Indian Ministry of Finance, Department of Revenue extended the definitive antidumping duty (Notification No. 31/2017-Customs (ADD)). The rate of duty is INR 154,732 (USD 2,397.44) per lakh needles. The duty is in force for a period of five years.
The definitive duty was terminated on 21 June 2022.
