Import-related non-tariff measure, nes
The Minister of Trade issued Regulation No. 56/M-DAG/PER/12/2008, dated 24 December 2008, that has imposed additional requirements on those seeking to import on over 500 products into Indonesia. Such imports are subject to licenses, must undergo pre-shipment inspection, and can only enter the country through six seaports and international airports. The products affected include clothing, textiles, electronics, toys, footwear, food and beverages. This measure became effective on clothing and textiles on 1 January 2009 and for other products on 1 February 2009.
Update April and December 2010:
In April 2010 the decree 56/2008 was expanded to cover cosmetics and traditional / herbal medicines (41 new tariff lines), due to domestic pressure to face increasing imports from China. The decree was temporary and expired on 31 December 2010. In December 2010, decree 57/2010 was adopted prolonging the former decree 56 for two more years until 31 December 2012.
Update December 2012
On 29 December 2012, the decree 83/2012 was adopted to prolong the former decree 57/2010. Because the amount of tariff lines affected increased dramatically, this is not considered an update but a new more protectionist measure than can be observed in the related measures section. Therefore this measure expired on 31 December 2012.
