ANNOUNCED AS TEMPORARYNo
On 21 May 2010, India lifted the ban on exports of almost all varieties of raw cotton and cotton waste. Henceforth, exporters will have to apply for a license. A notification released by the Ministry of Commerce, Government of India stated that although export of cotton is now allowed under a licensing system, it will remain as a restricted item for export.
Earlier on 19 April 2010, India had suspended the mandatory pre-shipment registration of raw cotton and cotton waste indefinitely, effectively banning fresh cotton exports from the country.
