Imports tariffs on soft wheat have been increased by 90% to 135% from June to December 2010. The tariff increase is to protect local production and ensure normal marketing of the product since the governement expects the price of the product on the international market to be low as a result of plentiful supply. Tariffs on durum wheat have also been increased to 170%.Earlier in the year, import tariffs on wheat and durum wheat were reduced.
