On 1 October 2016, the Malaysian government decided to raise the palm oil export duty. The export duty on crude palm oil was increased to 6.5% for the month of August. The product subject to export duties is classified under HS code subheading 1511.10.000. Prior to October 2016 the duty had been temporarily set at 5% for a period of two months, see related measure.
In October 2016, the Malaysian Royal Customs Department extended the above export duty on palm oil for one month i.e. until 30 November 2016.
On 1 December 2016, the export duty was reduced to 6%.
