On 1 August 2013, the Indonesian Ministry of Trade published regulation 38/M-DAG/PER/8/2013 amending previous regulation 82/M-DAG/PER/12/2012 on import restrictions for cell phones and tablets (cf. Related Measures).
The amendment introduces the requirement for importers of cell phones and tablets to have experience in importing such devices for at least three years (art. 7(2)a) and have at least 25 service centers across Indonesia (art. 7(2)b).
The new regulation also introduces an exception from these import restrictions for up to two cell phones or tablets sent from abroad (art. 22(1)c).
It came into force on the day of its publication.
The list of affected trading partners is based on the 6-digit HS codes 847130 and 851712.
On 30 May 2016, the Ministry of Trade published regulation 41/M-DAG/PER/5/2016 loosening the import restrictions (cf. Related Measures). However, as the import regulations listed above were not amended, this measure remains in force.
