NoOn 24 July 2016, the Jordanian authorities initiated a safeguard investigation on imports of aluminium bars, rods and profiles. The products subject to investigation are classified under the following HS code: 7604. Affected trading partners are identified based on UN Comtrade's import data from 2014.
On 31 July 2016, the Jordanian authorities imposed a provisional safeguard duty on imports of the above products. The duty is JD 150 per tonne (approx. USD 213), in addition to the applied tariff duty, and is in force for a period of 200 days.
On 15 May 2017, the Jordanian authorities imposed a definitive safeguard duty on imports of the subject good. The duty is JD 400 (USD 563.78) per tonne between 15 May 2017 and 14 May 2018 in addition to the applied tariff duty. The duty is JD 350 (USD 493.31) per tonne between 15 May 2018 and 14 May 2019 in addition to the applied tariff duty. The duty is JD 300 (USD 422.83) per tonne between 15 May 2019 and 25 October 2019 in addition to the applied tariff duty.
On 28 July 2019, the Jordanian authorities initiated a sunset review of the definitive safeguard duty imposed on imports of aluminium bars, rods and profiles. The investigation follows an application lodged by the domestic industry.
On 29 October 2019, the Jordanian authorities notified the WTO of its decision not to impose definitive safeguard duties on the subject good. As such, the definitive safeguard duty expired on 25 October 2019.
