Import tariff quota

On 23 June 2016, the Brazilian Foreign Trade Council Camex issued Resolution No. 59 extending the inclusion of aluminium (not-alloyed) in the form of standard ingots, sow or T-bar on the List of Exceptions to the Common External Tariff. Whilst Resolution 68/2015 and 15/2016 (see related measures) would have lapsed on 17 August 2016, the tariff-rate quota is through this Resolution extended for an additional 12 months until 17 August 2017. The import duty remains at 0% whilst the quota is reduced from 550,000 tonnes to 240,000 tonnes compared to the previous year.

Update
On February 17, 2017, CAMEX issued Resolution 14, reducing the reduced import tariff quota from 240,000 to 173,000 tonnes (see related state acts).

List of Exceptions to the Common External Tariff
The good was included in the List of Exceptions to the Common External Tariff (LETEC) of Mercosur which is a mechanism that allows member states of Mercosur to apply customs duties on a number of products that are lower or higher than otherwise listed in the Mercosur Common External Tariff schedule. However, the tariffs shall not surpass the ceilings given by the WTO.
