On 29 June 2016, the Indian Directorate General of Anti-dumping & Allied Duties, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, initiated an anti-dumping investigation on imports of colour coated and pre-painted flat products of alloy and non-alloy steel from China and the European Union. The products subject to investigation are classified under the following HS code subheadings: 7210.70.00; 7212.40.00; 7225.99.00 and 7226.99.90. This investigation follows the application lodged by Essar Steel India Limited and JSW Steel Coated Products Limited.
On 11 January 2017, the Indian Ministry of Finance imposed a provisional anti-dumping duty on the subject goods from China and the European Union (Notification No. 02/2017-Customs (ADD)). The amount of the duty is USD 849 per tonne on imports from the European Union and China. The provisional duty is in force for a period of six months.
On 17 October 2017, the Indian Ministry of Finance imposed a definitive anti-dumping duty on the subject goods from China (Notification No. 49/2017-Customs (ADD)). The amount of the duty is USD 822 per tonne on imports from the European Union and China. The duty is in force for a period of five years from 11 January 2017.
On 26 July 2021, the Indian authorities initiated a sunset review of the definitive duty imposed on imports of the subject good from China and the European Union. This follows the application lodged by Indian Steel Association.
On 8 October 2021, the sunset review was terminated without the extension of the duty.
On 13 January 2022, the definitive duty was terminated.
