ANNOUNCED AS TEMPORARYNo
On 14 June 2016, the Austrian Ministry for Agriculture announced a state aid package aimed at supporting milk farmers who have struggled from low market prices since the end of the milk quota regime by the European Union (cf. Related Measures). Other members of the EU have recently introduced similar packages, e.g. Germany (cf. Related Measures).
Austria promised to provide social insurance rebates worth up to 170 million EUR for the third and fourth quarters of 2016. Furthermore, the Ministry for Agriculture promised a repayment extension for agricultural investment credits as well as additional 8 million EUR for mountain farmers ("Bergbauern").
These steps follow a number of state aids already introduced at the Union level (cf. Related Measures).
A state measure in the GTA database is assessed solely in terms of the extent to which its implementation affects the extent of discrimination against foreign commercial interests. On this metric, the state aid proposed here is discriminatory.
The list of affected trading partners is based on 2014 figures.
