 On 20 May 2016 Sri Lanka, through Extraordinary Gazette No. 1967/57, increased the Special Commodity Levy on the import of Red Onions from Rs. 5 to Rs. 25 per kg. and on fennl seeds from Rs. 52 to Rs. 162 per kg.
 
Also, the applicable levy on fresh or chilled fish, red and yellow lentils, dates and cumin seeds was retained and extended (see related measure).

This levy has been announced for a period of 6 months.
 
The Special Commodity Levy is a composite duty on the product and no other tax, duty, cess etc. is applicable on the said product while the levy is valid.
