NoOn 19 February 2016, the South African authorities initiated a safeguard investigation on imports of frozen bone-in bone portions of fowls from the European Union. The investigation follows the conditions stipulated in Article 16 of the Agreement on Trade, Development and Co-operation between the European Community and South Africa. Further details can found in Notice No. 16 of 2016. The products subject to investigation are classified under the following tariff subheadings: 0207.14.91, 0207.14.93, 0207.14.95, 0207.14.96, 0207.14.97, 0207.14.98 and 0207.14.99. The request for investigation was lodged by South African Poultry Association.
On 15 December 2016, the South African authorities imposed a provisional duty on imports of frozen bone-in bone portions of fowls from the European Union. The rate of duty is 13.9%. The measure is in force until 3 July 2017.
On 28 September 2018, the South African authorities imposed a definitive safeguard duty on imports of the subject good from the European Union. The rate of duty between 28 September 2018 and 11 March 2019 is 35.3%. The rate of duty between 12 March 2019 and 11 March 2020 is 30%. The rate of duty between 12 March 2020 and 11 March 2021 is 25%. The rate of duty between 12 March 2021 and 11 March 2022 is 15%.
