Import tariff

On 17 March 2016, the French parliament passed the biodiversity bill which included an increased import duty on palm oil. Environmental-friendly palm oil and palmoil used as biofuel were exempted from the duty increase, which was previously set at 104 EUR/tonne.
Pending approval from the upper chamber of the French legislature, the additional tax will come into force in 2017 at a level of 30 EUR/tonne and will then be increased each year by 20 EUR until it reaches 90 EUR/tonne in 2020.
