On 11 January 2016, the Brazilian authorities initiated an antidumping investigation on imports of n-butanol from South Africa and Russia (Circular No. 2, 08/01/2016). The product subject to investigation is classified under HS codes 2905.13.00. The complaint was lodged on 28 October 2015 by Elekeiroz S.A.
On 23 December 2016, the Brazilian authorities imposed a definitive anti-dumping duty on imports of the subject good from Russia and South Africa (Camex Resolution No. 127 of 2016). The rate of duty on imports from South Africa is USD 782.76 per tonne, at the exception of the company Sasol South Africa (Proprietary) Limited. whose exports are subject to a duty of USD 328.23 per tonne. The rate of duty on imports from Russia is USD 979.87 per tonne. The duty is in force for a period of five years.
On 28 November 2016, the Brazilian authorities initiated a public interest assessment of the definitive duty imposed on imports of the subject good from South Africa and Russia as well as the definitive duty imposed on n-butanol from the United States, see related measure.
On 7 July 2017, the Brazilian authorities amended the definitive duty on imports of the subject good from the Russia and South Africa following the conclusion of the above public interest assessment. The rate of duty on imports from South Africa is 29.6% or 67.1% of the CIF ad valorem. The rate of duty on imports from Russia is 80.7% of the CIF ad valorem.
