On 12 January 2016, the Indian Ministry of Commerce & Industry amended the import policy of apples allowing such imports from additional ports. Earlier on 14 September 2015, the Ministry had restricted apple imports only through the Nhava Sheva port. With the current amendment, apple imports are allowed through sea ports and airports in Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata and Cochin, the land port and airport in Delhi and through India's land borders.
