On 4 December 2015, the South African Revenue Service (SARS) issued Notice no. 601 increasing the import duty on bore steel pipes under the subheadings of HS 7303, 7305 and 7306.
The tariffs were increased from either free of duty or 10% to 15% for all countries other than member states of the EU, EFTA, and SADC.
The change was requested by Hall Longmore (Pty) Ltd to the International Trade Administration Commission (ITAC) of South Africa. The Commission in turn recommended a tariff increase.
According to Report no. 507 by the ITAC, the Commission is going to review the tariff schedule after three years.
Affected trading partners
The GTA retrieves its data on affected trading partners from UN Comtrade. However, at the time of publication of this measure, the Comtrade database was not able to provide the affected trading partners for Lesotho and Swaziland for the year 2014.
